Anyway, 3 years and finally PS3 is ready to release a beta version of Home to the public. Also MS, thinks they've finally solved that pesky RROD problem. Since I consider these to be the biggest embarrassments to each console respectively, I'm pretty pleased with what the future holds. This is progress, hopefully.

EDIT: My fault, that should have read 3 years for 360's RROD and 2 for Home.

I respect that a dev's right to eat. I respect the right to be able to protect your hard work against the actions of thieves. However, I believe it's becoming increasingly obvious that this kind of draconian protection isn't helping the overall goal if profits have to go directly into costly legal battles.

It's about time the industry sought different methods to deter piracy, imo.

And yet pulling off that perfect headshot on Mr. I-played-the-beta will perk you right up.

It's all in what you put into it.

Wait and see is the best attitude to take. This is far from the first time MS has claimed to have fixed the issue. The drastic measures are appreciated though.

Big question is, how will this affect customers dealing with RROD currently?

Functionality trumps graphics. I think DS makes a good case for that statement. Without it, a pretty picture is only that.

Obviously, not true.

Prime reason why I did not purchase the game.

I'm probably one of the few left who prefers a good single-player campaign over cooperative play. Many games have managed both adequately, but L4D doesn't seem to be one of them.

I think there's no question that Bioware can make a better RPG than pretty much anyone in the business. Even Blizzard, which technically is only famous for one RPG, and an MMO at that.

But talk of "WoW killing" doesn't strike me as positive. Let WoW live to soak up the plethora of casuals and other undesirables who just started gaming yesterday. If Bioware does it's job, we'll have one of the best MMO experiences for the dedicated player.

I don't think it's as serious as all that.

Square has maintained a good standing among gamers and a reputation for quality JRPGs. However, you'd be a fool not to notice other great titles in the shadow of the software giant. Whatever this new negative attitude towards SE is, I'm glad it gets other great JRPG devs noticed. Shame it took some gamers this long to diversify their tastes.

Has SE lost some footing? Undoubtedly. But that won't stop you from rushing out to ...

I might be tempted to agree with you Obama but for one word: Bioware.

Pretty much EVERY Bioware game gives you a good, solid plot and a cast of comrades you can laugh at, care for, and empathize with. Going back to older titles, it was Interplay and Black Isle providing the heart in the machine with titles you may have heard of (Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, etc.). Even Fallout 3 gives you some attachment if not to party memebers i.e. carrying on your father's dream (or not...

People are just excited for K2. Wild speculation, all that. Nothing new. It's the same with every promising new title.

The matter at hand: None but true fans of the series are waiting around for the DLC. It's the holiday season. Everyone's in buy mode. And with all these tempting new titles out, I can't imagine that Johnny Xbox will say no to trading up for Fallout 3 or Fable 2 in favour of the seeming mirage that is GTA DLC.

Well, I bought the PC version just for the potential unleashed by the SDK, so I'm happy. It's just a bit hard to celebrate when your fellow gamers are getting shafted on content.

Console has nothing to do with it. A hit is a hit and a bomb is a bomb
regardless. The warmer receptions of Tales of Vesperia and Blue Dragon (both 360 JRPGSs) should lend credence to the matter.

Anyway, that's a rough score. I thought about grabbing it for PC, but I'll read up a bit more on it and see what's what. A shame though. I can remember a time when it was blasphemy to even suggest a Square title would be less than perfect. Oh well, at least it gives other awesome ...

NXE is the new thing so everyone's bandwagoning. Not a bad thing, but tiresome if you read the dailies.

I have yet to plug my 360 back up so, maybe I'll give it a whirl later today.

Yet another thing I don't care for with MMOs as they are now. The power is not with the gamer. If she shuts down, you have only a set of expensive frisbees left over. I'm definitely no saavy programmer so I don't know the plausibility, but a good solution for me would be to offer some way to continue my game offline or with a private server if the monetization fails.

Right.

I think a lot of this is spillover from fans still embittered over SE's move to make FFXIII multiplat. When Square started producing multi-disc games, we lauded Square for bringing us more game for our dollar.

As long as SE can deliver on the quality of the game, who cares if it's more than one disc?

I felt pretty let down with both games. I had high expectations coming from the last of the isometric greats like Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale.

NWN was just so lacklustre on so many fronts, NWN2 was better, but buggy enough to kill the entire experience for me. While I enjoyed my time there, gamebreaking bugs eventually forced me out. Obsidian supports the game adequately (I believe I had to download about a gig of patches before my first play) so maybe some of my gripes ha...

No thanks. I wasn't particularly thrilled when MS got into the game last gen even though they've had a decent showing. For me to even consider the iPhone for gaming, I'd have to see some games I actually wanted to play for more than the ten minutes I wait at the doctor's office. Even then, it'd still take more to convince me it could be on par with dedicated handhelds.
